Using Google Analytics

This article is an introduction to Google Analytics and shows how to access and log onto your Google account in order to view the visitors that have been to your website.

Go to Google Analytics website

Enter the Google Analytics website address into your browser, which is the following URL; you may also use the following as a link.

https://www.google.com/analytics

You need to press the Access Analytics button in order to log on and access your information.

Log onto your account

You need an account and should have been provided with a Google Account plus password to use; enter these into the logon area and Sign In.

Select the profile to view

You will now be logged into your Google Analytics account and will see a list of the website profiles that belong to your account; unless you have multiple websites then only one website profile will be listed.

You may view a profile by clicking on View Report that is located next to the website name.

Browse your site analytic information

You will now be in the website profile that you selected and the first screen shows the number of visitors that you had in the past few weeks; this will be drawn as a line chart.

Your first screen is your dashboard and shows you summary information - below the chart there are details of the Site Usage that shows you the total number of Visits made to your site and total number of pages viewed.

The dashboard also shows a map of where in the world your visitors came from, what pages were viewed the most, and traffic sources which shows how your visitors arrived at your website; such as what search engine they used, or what website referred them.

Google Analytics

You may click on any of the sections to gain more information about your visitors and site; as well as using the links on the left hand side of the scrren to go into different areas.

For example, under Visitors you may see information such as how many visitors were new, and how many were returing; plus location and browser information for those visitors.
